The Impact of Learning, in Words and Images
Senior Class Trip 2025
Thanks to support from the Shelter Island Educational Foundation, the 2025 Senior Class took an unforgettable trip to the Pacific Northwest.
Highlights included exploring Pike Place Market, taking in views from the Space Needle, visiting Chihuly Garden and Glass, and a whitewater rafting adventure on the Wenatchee River—an exhilarating first for many students.

Immersive Learning in Cádiz, Spain
Every other year, CentroMundo Lengua and SIEF offer Shelter Island students the opportunity to immerse in a two-week linguistic and cultural program in Cádiz, Spain. Students live with local host families and gain a firsthand understanding of Spanish language, customs, and everyday life.
From paella cooking and flamenco dancing to beach outings and language classes, students grow through rich cultural exchange. The experience nurtures independence, cultural connection, and global awareness through meaningful, hands-on learning.
Schooner Trip 2025
A unique five-day sailing program supported by the Educational Foundation, where students embarked on a maritime journey to Martha’s Vineyard, sailing through Vineyard Sound and around the Elizabeth Islands aboard a traditional schooner.
Without access to phones or electronics, they embraced hands-on learning as they assisted the crew — scrubbing the deck, hoisting sails, coiling rope, and more. While many began the trip feeling uncertain, they returned with unforgettable memories, deepened friendships, and a true appreciation for life on the sea.

Student Reflections from the Schooner Trip
“This was the best trip ever. The connections I made with the crew and how I got closer to my classmates was the most fun. I even got to steer the wheel of the schooner, which was my favorite part. I recommend that everyone goes on this trip. It genuinely changed my life for the better.”
“Thank you Educational Foundation for supporting the Schooner trip for yet another year. It helped me greatly in opening my eyes to the world of sailing as a career opportunity. … The crew will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
“This trip helped me come out of my shell. I’m glad that many more classes will get to enjoy this trip for years to come.”
